Where have the past three weeks gone?! Caring for a baby really makes the day pass so quickly… Last night for instance I looked at my phone to check the time and found it was already past 11pm when it felt like only 7pm.
Some quick highlights of the week:
Martin is on vacation this week and we have been enjoying time at home. A few days ago I caught up on our laundry… Which I had not washed since before Cruz was born. Living in a vintage apartment for us means having no washing machine or dryer! Not even one in the basement! The laundromat is a 2 minute walk but it’s a major pain whenever laundry day comes. We are moving in about 3 months and a washer and dryer is on my must have list for our new home! When you have a baby they become a necessity! (And I still haven’t had a chance to put away the clean laundry two days later!)
I wore Cruz in my Moby wrap while doing laundry because we still haven’t gotten the hang of pumping and bottle feeding yet. I managed to feed him at the laundromat without flashing anyone. Before I was done folding the laundry he was hungry again but I didn’t feel comfortable trying to feed him again there so Martin came and helped me pack up the laundry and we finished folding it at home.
We received our breast pump a few days ago (which our insurance covered 100%… Call and ask yours before you buy one!) and I bought everything else we needed from BuyBuyBaby when my parents were in town. That store is amazing! I’ve never seen so many baby products in one place in my life. It was a floor to ceiling baby extravaganza! I’ve pumped twice and Cruz has successfully drank out of the bottle one time! The trick is finding a bottle he likes, the first one we tried didn’t work out. I am so relieved to be able to bring a bottle with us now when we go out. Sometimes depending on where we are and who is around us, I don’t always feel comfortable whipping out a boob in public. Otherwise, breastfeeding is so convenient. No sanitizing bottles, warming up milk, pumping and storing it, cleaning the breast pump… It just feels so natural to breastfeed him and for that I am thankful it came so easy for us. Many women struggle to breastfeed and often give up or are forced to formula feed.
I am now a proud owner of an Ergo baby carrier and Moby wrap, both of which I’d recommend for different occasions. (A friend let me borrow her Moby wrap but I ended up buying another one with a gift certificate we got… I think every mom should own at least one kind of carrier.) Whenever I put Cruz in he instantly calms down and tends to fall asleep.
We weighed Cruz last night out of curiosity because he has filled out quite a bit since he was born… He still fits into newborn sizes but he can also wear 0-3 clothes now as well without drowning in them. He weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs. I am so glad he wasn’t this chunky when he was born… I imagine that would involve a lot more stitches for me.
We ate real sushi for the first time since being pregnant! Real meaning containing raw fish… When I was pregnant I only ate the rolls with cooked shrimp or eel and vegetables.
Yesterday we went grocery shopping and last night I made a meal that my mom cooked for us while she was visiting that we both loved! Vegan mushroom gravy that tastes better than any gravy I’ve ever had! I’ll have to share it in another blog post because it will change your life. No joke.
We are going to an auto show today so I should be getting ready right now while baby is sleeping! Enjoy some pictures and check back soon for more posts!
